LeBron James Twitter Activity a Subtle Jab at Kyrie Irving
LeBron James is the greatest basketball player on the planet. And he just realized that no one deserves a free ride to success even as his team-mate.
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are in the midst of a bad breakup. Kyrie Irving recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie Irving cited his reason as wanting more of a leadership role with LeBron James not around. In the weeks to follow, James and Irving have made subtle jabs at each other through social media and now it appears James has one more thing to add to the saga.
James sent a message through the twitter-verse by suggesting to ‘Never let another [person] ride your wave’ . It appears James is referencing the lyrics of Drake’s song “Portland”.
It’s quite clear that the two no longer have a strong standing relationship after Irving’s trade request became public knowledge. This only makes a trade the inevitable next step for the Cavaliers to take in order to find a solution to the situation.
Never let another ride your wave 🌊!!!

James never directly linked Kyrie Irving in the message but the intended target was clear.
Kyrie Irving had not been to the playoffs or won anything meaningful in the NBA until LeBron James decided to return back to Cleveland. With James in Cleveland, the Cavaliers have been to three straight NBA Finals, winning their first NBA Championship in 2016. The team had an opportunity to win another title this past summer against the Golden State Warriors but could not find the offensive rhythm or defense to prevail.
LeBron James has made a living off others ‘riding his wave’ en route to winning NBA championships and will likely continue to do so in the future.
On Monday, former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin appeared on ESPN’s The Jump and commented on the Irving trade request.
“He handled the situation exactly like he was supposed to. He went to Dan Gilbert privately and told him that he thought he would be happier somewhere else. The absolute worst thing this guy could have done was pretend to be all-in and sink the ship from within. Most guys don’t have the courage to do what he did.”
The Cavaliers have yet to honor Irving’s request. And at the moment nothing suggests they are in a hurry to move him to another team.
Its becoming clear that James and Irving will not mend their former relationship and that should make the Cavaliers trade the all-star guard at some point this season.
But for now, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving will have to continue on riding the same wave.
