Orlando Magic hire Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond in same role

The Orlando Magic have agreed to a five-year deal with Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond in the same role.

He has been with the Bucks since 2008 and was instrumental in helping the Bucks turning their team around. Some of his selections were Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker among others in recent draft moves.

The Bucks have made the playoffs twice in the last three years, all under Hammond’s player personnel moves.

In 2010, He was named NBA Executive of the Year after building a roster that returned to the playoffs after a four year absence.

He joins new Magic President, Jeff Weltman in Orlando as the the Magic attempt to change the culture of the team. Hammond has history with Weltman as they both worked together in Milwaukee with the Bucks.

Orlando has now hired a president and general manager from two current playoff clubs. Magic CEO Alex Martin’s has made it clear that last season was a disappointment and that the team should be competing for the playoffs at this point in their rebuild.

Weltman and Hammond must come in to Orlando and work quickly to analyze the current roster. The NBA draft is next month and they will need to prepare accordingly.

Hammond should be able to help build the team through the draft as he has been able to do so with the Bucks.
